Model designed entirely in-house by Rich, Dave and John.
| HMS
Surprise
(1:64) |
| Copper plating begins tight against the false keel; the false keel itself is plated last. (Research Note 2: Knowledge that Surprise was copper plated is obtained from the Progress Book.) |
| The copper plating continues up to the waterline in continuous 'strips', following the curvature of the hull. There are no 'gore belts' as this technique was not introduced until a much later date. |
| Copper plating at the bow, again the plating is laid in continuous 'strips' terminating at the waterline. |
The completed bow copper plating; notice how the copper plates continue in order to cover the stem. |
Deck fittings begin with the lining fitting of gratings to the various gun deck hatches. |
The forward companionway lined and with the companion ladder fitted. Notice that the rope hand rail has been secured to the stanchions at the base of the ladder. |
| The completed forward companionway with balusters and rope hand rail. |
