HMS
Surprise
Nelsons Navy
Page 4 of 17 ![]()
Model designed entirely in-house by Rich, Dave and John.
| HMS
Surprise
(1:64) |
| The first planking as viewed at the bow. |
|
|
The completed first planking. Although Surprise was particularly bluff bowed above the waterline, her sleek lines below the waterline would have made her a swift sailor; another typically French characteristic. |
|
The small section of the false deck that will be visible through the hatches and companions of the upper gun deck is planked. |
|
The four central stern extensions will also form the stern timbers. As the stern timbers will be visible on the completed model they are cut from walnut. To avoid damage to the delicate stern timbers they have been cut as a separate component to the hidden extension and will be fitted 'jig-saw' style when required for fitting the stern fascia. |
|
The six stern extensions as fitted
to the after face of bulkhead 16. Note, the outermost extensions do not require a stern timber. |
|
| The fitting of the stern counter against the stern extensions. Once in place, the stern counter will be planked with walnut. |
